2. plant layout study

Design of the best possible factory layout.

There is no ideal lay-out, but there are general criteria that ensure rational and efficient solutions that lead to reduced waste and costs, less risk and fewer errors.

Below are some examples of possible typical situations:

SINGLE-BAY LONGITUDINAL LAYOUT

Here a simple example of a lay-out for a small but highly efficient plant.

DOUBLE-BAY LONGITUDINAL LAYOUT

This is the most frequent solution when the dimensions increase. Schnell recommends dividing the two bays between "heavy" and "light" processing.

T-SHAPED LONGITUDINAL LAYOUT

T-layouts are recommended for medium to large factories. The raw material storage area in the "head of the T" enables efficient material handling and distribution.

TRANSVERSAL LAYOUT

This is a very short type of layout, offering efficient and simplified logistics, although it requires the bays to have a considerable width.
